Dr. Burton has extensive experience in conventional family medicine and urgent care spanning over 15 years. However, her passion lies in integrative and functional medicine, which she considers a God-given calling that brings her deep joy. Her approach to health care is centered around evidence-based and personalized care, focusing on the body, heart, mind, and spirit. Dr. Burton emphasizes the importance of lifestyle and nutrition, incorporating nutraceuticals and botanicals when necessary, and resorting to pharmaceuticals only when other options prove insufficient. She believes in blending the naturopathic and conventional approaches based on each patient's specific needs.
Dr. Burton's qualifications include being board-certified in Family Medicine, completing training and certification via the Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM-CP), and participating in courses via the American Academy of Anti-Aging (A4M). She also acquired a Master of Arts in Christian Spiritual Formation from Wheaton College, IL, where she studied the spiritual disciplines of the Saints and monastic traditions, as well as various healing, counseling, and spiritual direction modalities. Dr. Burton completed a mentorship via Functional Medicine Clinic Immersion by naturopathic physician Dr. Kara Fitzgerald, and recently graduated from the fellowship of the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine (FAIHM). She will be board eligible in integrative medicine in 2023. She graduated cum laude from Baylor College of Medicine and Dartmouth College.
Dr. Burton's interests extend beyond medicine as she is also a devoted wife and mother to two adopted children from Colombia, South America. She relocated from New England to Arkansas with her family, where she now enjoys homesteading and caring for a variety of farm animals. Her discovery of functional medicine over the last five years rekindled her love for medicine, which had previously dwindled due to the discouragement she felt with our broken and de-humanizing medical system.
Dr. Burton specializes in providing in-depth, root-based functional medicine, with expertise in women's health, hormones/bioidenticals, functional gut, cardio-metabolic, longevity optimization, and mental health.
Why I am passionate about treating patients with hypothyroidism.
My sister was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism and found minimal benefit from the usual conventional medical approach. We took a deep dive together into the research, and fortunately, thanks to the book "Thyroid Connection" by Amy Meyers, MD and other functional medicine information online, she experienced a night and day improvement by incorporating a few, integral changes including an anti-inflammatory & gluten free diet and adding some nutraceuticals. My eyes were opened to the limitations of my medical training and I opted to pursue further studies via IFM. For those with thyroid disorders who have not been heard, supported, or validated in the traditional doctor's office, I long to provide an encouraging, compassionate, and empowering space to foster further healing and optimal wellness.
My approach to treating hypothyroidism is...
Personalized, whole person centered, collaborative, and precision health care for thyroid disorders.
