Dr. Cunningham is board certified in both Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine. He received his BS from the University of Virginia before returning to his hometown to receive an MD from the University of Louisville. His residency training was at UCSF Santa Rosa.


He is a family practice physician with extensive experience managing thyroid disease as well as other autoimmune conditions. He primarily practices virtual medicine currently from Denver, Colorado. Prior to relocating there, he was the clinical lead at a busy primary care office in San Francisco.


What makes you passionate about treating patients with hypothyroidism:

Working with people who have hypothyroidism always teaches me something new. I appreciate seeing how hypothyroidism can affect people so uniquely. Sometimes balancing the thyroid is the crux of making someone well. Other times, discussion of common thyroid symptoms creates opportunity to see new dimensions of one’s health that may have otherwise remained under the radar.

My approach to treating hypothyroid patients is:

My approach is rooted in evidence-based medicine, while recognizing that not everyone feels right on the same treatment plan. I look for lifestyle factors that may need improvement, and I am open to using different forms of thyroid medication, in conjunction with laboratory assessment to guide dosage adjustments.
